Design Work
"The Odyssey" Concept Poster
One of my assignments in a past class was to make a concept poster themed around a book or play - the goal was to simplify the plot down to a single sentence and base the design around that sentence.
The Odyssey is all about the struggles of one man as he tries to return home, fighting against the hindrances of numerous gods.
As such, I aimed to design a poster that emphasized the scale of Odysseus's struggles and the will of the gods in comparison to the man himself, which is represented by his tiny boat and the massive hand reaching out to crush it.
Although I created the final design concept pretty quickly, I thought of numerous alternate designs with the same imagery, which is in the PDF slideshow to the right).
Novel and Play Typesetting Project
Below are prints from my Typography class project where we were tasked with typesetting 48 pages each of a novel and a play to design type-based covers.
The Three Musketeers is a classic novel that I really wanted to try my hand at typesetting.

I wanted the cover to stay pretty basic, so I wound up going for this design, with each word of the title being separated by three lines, representing each of the three musketeers.
For my play, I chose Faust. I'm not used to reading plays, so typesetting this was quite a bit tougher than The Three Musketeers, but I loved how it turned out.

For the cover, I wanted to use simple colors to convey the titular character's descent into Hell as he is tempted by the demon Mephistopheles to further betray his morality.
"Pachyderm Publishing" Brand Design Exercise

This design project was based around designing an entire brand - its products, ideology, goals and desired audiences - and design a series of mock-ups.
The brand I created was Pachyderm Publishing, a graphic novel publisher that aims to create more diversity in the graphic novel genre, both for authors and their stories.

We were supposed to start by picking a design based on our random belongings, and I was rather taken with the shape of an elephant pendant I had.
After creating the initial design, I realized the specific line-up of the elephants and the logo made it look like the elephants are walking together in a line, which tied in perfectly with the company's theme of connecting and unifying people who don't often get to see their stories told.
